Creases-addicted
Zhang Hua’s creation starts from his fascination to cloth, and using clay as the mediation to interpret creases is, in principle, his way of wandering spirit. The artist is too intoxicated to reproduce the real exhaustive tension within the creases. Therefore, dynamic
visual language like compression, pull and dissolution often appear in his sculptures. Although dynamic description constructsquiescent vigor, quiescence is a kind of endless halt in which waiting makes anxiety…Such anxiety does not agitate people, but fascinates them. People could not help but seek from the close and numerous creases.
Zhang’s works arouses feelings of anxiety in viewers. This type of concern is inevitably expressed on the face of ancient thinkers. However, thespiritual shockwave inflicted by Zhang’s works will bring every person to a stop as they stroll past his works. ............ \| ............ \| ............ \| ............. |Wang Lin (Professor, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute; Deputy Director, Academic Committee)

Classic, reproduction and the loss of message
The content of Zhang’s sculptures is mainly about the deformation of classic image in Western art history. From Homer, David, Mono Liza to modern consumerist icons like KFC and Häagen-Dazs…none of them can be excluded from its own history and culture. The artist does not intend to play or to make a mystery of their classical meaning. He just returns to consider whether the copy of such repeated image will make the original message missing or distorted. This process of message losing is actually the same as the dynamic language of crease, compression and pull.
